CBM supported the inaugural Malaika Tribute Awards which were held on 18th December 2012 in Nairobi. The Awards were held by the Malaika Trust to celebrate the achievements remarkable people who have overcome their disabilities. They aim to give recognition to the unsung heroes with disabilities in the Kenyan Society. Two CBM partners were nominated and won in their respective categories.

CBM supported the inaugural Malaika Tribute Awards which were held on 18th December 2012 in Nairobi. CBM supported the event by sponsoring the Young Achievers: Arts and Music Award. The Awards were developed by the Malaika Trust to celebrate the achievements of remarkable people who have overcome their disabilities.

Malaika Trust was founded by MTV award and multiple Groove Award winner Daddy Owen, one of the artist who performed the Twende Kazi campaign theme song. Malaika Trust is also mobilizing musician and public figures to create awareness on issues affecting persons with disabilities. The aim of the awards is giving recognition to the many unsung heroes in the Kenyan society. The Trust creates awareness on issues affecting people with disabilities and gives tribute to local individuals and organisations that have contributed to improving the lives of people living with disabilities.

Two CBM partners were nominated and won in their respective categories, the two are;

  • Good Samaritan Award – Bethany Kids Kijabe Hospital which is a part of A.I.C CURE International Children’s Hospital 
  • Activist of the Year Award – Harun Hassan, Director ofNONDO a CBM implementing partner in one of the emergency and recovery programmes 

The other winners were;

  • Young Achiever: Sports -Shadrack Wambugu
  • Innovator of the Year – Barrack Ounga
  • Notable Educator of the Year Award – Dr. Michael Ndurumo
  • Lifetime Achievement Award – Mary Atieno
  • Special Recognition Award – Ruth Mueni
  • Young Achiever: Arts & Music Award – Martha Ouko
